As a successful entrepreneur, AJG Direct’s Managing Director, Paul Gillett is all too aware of the importance of developing stringent habits that will help him take his business to stratospheric levels of success. During a motivational meeting for his contractors, Mr Gillett outlined some of the most important habits budding entrepreneurs should adopt in order to increase their chances of success.
In the session, Mr Gillett explained that there are many traits and attributes that professionals can learn from highly successful entrepreneurs such as introducing a morning routine that helps maximise time and increase productivity or showing unwavering tenacity when situations don’t quite go as planned.
Mr Gillett believes that perfecting these qualities will soon lead to the development of ingrained habits, which will soon become a natural way of life if implemented properly and adhered to.
In a study conducted by University College London’s health psychology researcher, Phillippa Lally, Ms Lally and her team of researchers found that it took, on average, more than two months before a new behaviour becomes automatic.
Mr Gillett was fascinated by these findings and believes that this demonstrates why it is important for professionals to adopt positive habits as soon as possible in order to avoid delaying their chances of success in the future.
As the session progressed, Mr Gillett outlined some the key habits that some of the world’s most revered and successful entrepreneurs have taken on board;
Adopt a strict schedule – Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and SpaceX’s Elon Musk are amongst some of the world’s entrepreneurs that attribute their strict schedule as one of the contributing factors for their success. Whether it’s dissecting the day into five-minute blocks or only deciding to focus energy on the most important and innovative ideas, Mr Gillett explained that getting the most out of each day with a schedule could be the key to ensuring no goal is left unfulfilled.
Always be open to developing your knowledge – Billionaire entrepreneurs Bill Gates and Warren Buffet claim that it is their continuous thirst for knowledge that has helped them reach their current status. Mr Buffett supposedly spends approximately 80 percent of his day reading, whilst Mr Gates aims to read 50 books per year. Mr Gillett said, “In order to get ahead in business, it’s important that budding professionals are open to new ways of thinking and prepared to develop their knowledge any way possible.”
Keep a strong, positive, and flexible mindset – Mr Gillett believes that success cannot be achieved without hard work and a positive mindset. During the workshop, Mr Gillet reminded his contractors of the importance of maintaining positivity – even when it appears that the odds are stacked against them.
